Boxing: Valdemir Pereira Wins IBF Featherweight Title at Foxwoods
Foxwoods Resort and Casino in association with Banner Promotions presented ESPN's Friday Night Fights and entertained the crowd with an action-packed card.
Headlining the night was the bout for the vacant IBF Featherweight Title pitting the #4 ranked contender, Valdemir Pereira, 22-0, 15 KO's, against the #3 ranked contender, Fahproakob Rakkiatgym.
Going into the bout, Pereira stated that: "I'm 31 years old, and it's my time." His opponent, Rakkiatgym 52-3, 33 KO's, came into this bout on a fourteen fight winning streak, winning ten of them by the way of knockout.
Prior to this night, his biggest opportunity ended in disaster when he was stopped in one round by Manny Pacquiao where he was knocked down four times and carried out on a stretcher.
For him to come back from that defeat to make it to this point was impressive.
